John R. Davis

John Rees Davis was born in 1840 in Portage County Ohio
Davis served in the Civil War after enlisting in 1864 in Company C, 155 O.V.I.
Upon his return, he entered the insurance and real estate business with his brother-in-law.
In 1872 he was elected to two terms as Mahoning County Sheriff
He continued in politics by serving two terms in the Ohio General Assembly in 1899 and 1891
Davis hired local architect Charles H Owsley to design the building at 217 West Federal Street which bears his name which was opened in 1899
