• Charles H. Owsley arrived in Youngstown in 1869 from England after deserting from the Royal Navy
• Owsley's father paid a 49 pound  indenture of apprenticeship to architects Matthew Digby Scott and George Gilbert Scott, two of England's premier architects in architectural faience
• Faience is the English equivalent of architectural terra cotta detail prevalent in the United States from 1898 to 1938
• Owsley designed many prestigious buildings in the Youngstown region including the Carnegie Library in East Liverpool  (1898), Mercer County Courthouse
